Do you have a kiddo who loves Minecraft and wants a Minecraft birthday party? If so you are in the right place. This post has ideas for Minecraft decorations, food, and games.
My husband and I decided that when our boys turned 10, we would throw a big friend party for them. Other than their first birthday, we just have a small family gathering with cake and ice cream. For a few years, James has been all about Minecraft, so it was no surprise that he picked Minecraft for his 10th birthday party theme.
Since James’s birthday is in the summer and he invited 10 boys, we decided to have the party in the garage. Which also forced my husband to get it cleaned up (from some home renovations). To start, James and I went looking for some inspiration, and then we got busy on his Minecraft birthday party.
DECORATIONS
The main material we used for our DIY decorations was construction paper and cardstock- very budget friendly! Also, James found a Minecraft party theme set online and for what was all included, I thought the price was decent. It covered all the items we would need for the meal and cake – plates, cups, green plastic utensils, and napkins. It also had some wristbands that we put in the goodie bags, hanging decorations, balloons, a tablecloth, a banner, and 2 shimmery “portals”.
We used the tablecloth that came with the Minecraft set for the cake table, and the tablecloths that went on the tables for eating we found at Walmart. Plain green tablecloths (also from Walmart) went on the food tables.
Centerpieces
The cube base for the centerpieces I found at Michaels. The boxes were $1 each, and I wish I had bought more because these could be used for so many things!
I printed out 4 sides of the TNT block and the classic Minecraft dirt block on to card stock. Since I wanted to be able to reuse the boxes, I taped them on the outside. It would have looked more finished to paint them at the seams and around the top, but James was happy with the way it looked and as I just mentioned, I wanted to be able to take the centerpieces a part and use the boxes for something else.
I found the Minecraft numbers online and printed them out on cardstock. Then I taped them to a lollipop stick to get them to stand in the centerpiece. Finally, to finish them off, I had some leftover green filler that went inside the box.
Foldables
Also for the tables, I found Minecraft 3D foldables. After printing them on cardstock, I carefully folded and glued them. I made a pig, a cow, Steve, a zombie, and various blocks like the dirt block and a chest. You can see a TNT block in the picture above.
Creeper Face
The Creeper face was pretty simple to make but made a nice impact hanging on the wall. We took black, light green, and darker green construction paper and cut 4 inch by 4 inch squares. I used my cutting tool to make straight lines. The number of squares needed for each color is:
Black – 20
Light Green – 24
Green – 20
After all the squares were cut, we followed a pattern of a Creeper face that I found here. After a lot of taping, the Creeper face was up on the wall!
Somehow we did not take a picture of just the Creeper face! I found the picture below from another Minecraft birthday party that we had made the same face for. Unfortunately even this is not a perfect picture but should give you an idea of what it looked like.

Pig
James and I started by making a pig face and then decided that we would make a full pig body to use for a pin the tail on the pig game.
To make the pig we used pink, white, and black construction paper. The pig’s nose has a lighter pink color for the top and the bottom. We did not have a lighter pink so I colored white squares lightly with a pink crayon.
A piece of pink construction became the pig’s body and then James helped make some feet with two black squares for the hooves.
Enderman
This Enderman was super easy to make. James and I made two of these for the walls in the garage. We used black, pink, and purple construction paper. We took one piece of black and cut it into a square for the head and one full piece of black paper became the body. For the arms and legs, we cut thin strips of the black construction paper and taped them together to get the right length.
For the eyes, we cut a piece of pink construction paper to be 3 inches long by 1 inch tall. We needed two of those pieces. Then we cut a purple square 1 inch by 1 inch. We taped the pink piece a little higher than halfway on the face on both sides. The purple piece was taped in the middle of the pink.
Spiders
I really loved how these spiders looked. We made two of these spiders. We needed black crepe paper (streamers) and 2 black balloons for each spider. Also, we used red construction paper for the eyes.
First, I blew up the balloons so that one was smaller than the other. The smaller one became the head and the bigger one the body. We used duct tape to tape them to the wall.
Next I cut 8 pieces of crepe paper. The length of the legs was probably between 3 and 4 feet long. I took pieces of masking tape and taped 2 or 3 sections for each leg to look like they were wavy. The picture shows this better than I can describe it! Make sure to tape them coming out of the body.
Finally, I cut out two red squares and taped them onto the head of the spider.
FOOD
I knew the food had to be pretty simple to make since I had a one month old baby at the time of the party. We also went for food that would work with Minecraft. Each food had a tag showing what food it was supposed to be in Minecraft The menu James and I decided on and the corresponding Minecraft food was:
Hot Dogs – Hot Dogs
Potato Chips – Ghast Tears
Pretzel Sticks – Sticks
Carrots – Carrots
Grapes – Slime Balls
Strawberries – Red Stone
Strawberry Jell-O – Lava
Blue Raspberry Jell-O – Water
Red Licorice – TNT
For the licorice, I printed out TNT strips that we wrapped around three pieces of licorice and taped at the back to hold together.
The drinks were water and Capri Sun juice boxes. I am glad that I did not put out all of the juice boxes at once because it was a hot day and those 9 and 10 year old boys drank A LOT!!
The food was pretty easy. I was able to prepare the Jell-O, grapes, strawberries, and carrots the day before. So the day of the party, the only thing I had to do was grill the hot dogs and put the rest of the food out.
We put the food on green Minecraft plates with a Creeper face that came from Walmart.
CAKE
Between having a one month old baby, having to decorate, and do food for the party, I knew I would not have time to make a cake. So, we ordered a custom cake from Costco and just printed out some Minecraft pictures to add to the cake. I taped a candy stick to the back and stuck the pictures into the cake. So easy!
GAMES
Just like the cake, I told James we needed games that were fairly easy and did not require a lot of work to create. We came up with 4 easy, but fun games.
Minecraft Bingo
A few years ago, I found a Minecraft Bingo game online that we had used at another birthday party with family. We had just enough cards for the boys to play. Each time someone got a bingo, they won a piece of candy.
I tried looking for the Minecraft Bingo to link here, but I could not find the same one.
Pin the Tail on the Minecraft Pig
We used the pig that we made for this game. James cut out pink squares that the boys would try to “pin” on the pig. The pig was taped up on the refrigerator in the garage.
We used a handkerchief to blindfold the boys. They were spun around three times and then tried their best to get the square on the pig’s backside.
This is such a simple game but the boys enjoyed it.
Mining for Blocks
To set up this game we used Mega Blocks for the mining blocks. We scattered them all around the backyard. We picked 3 of the boys to be “mobs” that would try to tag the other boys who were “miners”.
The “miners” had to try and pick up all of the blocks and run them to a bucket. They could only take one at a time. If they got tagged by a mob they were out until they could respawn 20 seconds later. We set up 3 minute rounds. To win, the miners had to have more blocks in the buckets than still out on the ground.
Creeper War
This was extremely simple, and what kids don’t love water balloons? We bought Bunch O Balloons which are so incredibly easy to fill. The boys were all Creepers and they had to throw their water balloons at each other to get it to break. We decided no one would be out if they got hit since everyone wanted in on the fun water action.
GOODIE BAGS
James wanted a goodie bag for each boy to take with them when they left the party. We had the Minecraft wristbands that I mentioned earlier. We also included a Minecraft pencil. From Costco I bought a huge bag of candy and each boy got a good number of pieces of that. Finally, we found Minecraft Rice Crispy treats at Walmart.
Everything was placed in a white paper lunch bag and then we folded the top down. I would have stapled the top but we were out of staples! I printed and cut out different Minecraft characters and animals to tape on the front of the bags. Each boy got a different picture.
I made sure that the bags did not get passed out until the boys left because after cake and ice cream, Jell-O, juice boxes, licorice, and candy prizes from bingo, those boys did NOT need more sugar! I hope their parents weren’t upset with me!
When the party was over, I was exhausted! James and his friends had a great time and all the work was worth it! It was fun planning the Minecraft birthday party and I loved how the decorations were pretty simple considering that everything in Minecraft is made out of square blocks!
